ANIMATED FILM – RESISTANCE – PSYCHOANALYSIS – EVENING II

Together with the Sigmund Freud Museum, we invite audiences on May 28, 2026, to the second film and discussion evening of this year’s series on animation film and psychoanalysis. The program features “The Pool or Death of a Goldfish” by Daria Kopiec and “Paradaïz” by Matea Radic. The series connects to the museum’s 2026 annual theme, “Resistance”.

Following the films, psychoanalyst Helga Klug and film scholar Olivia Poppe will discuss the works together with the audience. The evening will be moderated by Monika Pessler, the director of the Sigmund Freud Museum. The discussion will be in German.

The screenings will take place in the Library of Psychoanalysis at the Sigmund Freud Museum.

FILM PROGRAM

The Pool or Death of a Goldfish
Daria Kopiec, PL 2025, 14 min

A daughter trapped in a possessive relationship with her mother transforms into a goldfish, as unspoken anger and childhood pain surface. Gestures, silence, and grief swirl around her, exposing her trauma and the fragility of selfhood – but also setting things in motion.

Paradaïz
Matea Radic, CA 2025, 9 min

Welcome to a place where the houses have holes, tomatoes are ticking time bombs and snails wander the streets in search of a safe space. The Sarajevo-born artist uses absurdist animation, archival images and her own slippery childhood memories to explore the real meaning of home.

We look forward to an evening of shared film viewing and discussion. Admission is free; registration is encouraged.
