ANIMATED FILM – RESISTANCE – PSYCHOANALYSIS – EVENING I

This spring, together with the Sigmund Freud Museum, we once again invite audiences to special film and discussion evenings.
This year, the first of two film evenings will take place on April 16, featuring HOUSE ON THE SEA by Tünde Nagy. In Nagy’s short film, a woman who lives alone in a house in the middle of the sea creates a child from her own hair. When a ship appears one day, her fragile world begins to fall out of balance.
The film will be screened in the Library of Psychoanalysis at the Sigmund Freud Museum. The 2026 film series is dedicated to the museum’s annual theme, “Resistance”. In psychoanalysis, resistance refers to the defense against repressed material and at the same time represents a possible starting point for change. Beyond this, resistance also appears in social and political contexts—as opposition, self-assertion, and resilience.
After the screening, the psychoanalyst and film scholar Beate Hofstadler and the literary and cultural studies scholar Marina Rauchenbacher will discuss the film. The audience is warmly invited to participate and share their own thoughts. The discussion will be moderated by the director of the Sigmund Freud Museum, Monika Pessler.
We look forward to watching the film together and to the discussion that follows. Admission is free! Registration is recommended.
The second film and discussion evening at the Sigmund Freud Museum will take place on May 28.
