Spaces of Resonance: Recent Animated Films by Austrian Artists

We happily introduce the 6th edition of our curated program of Austrian animation in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs. SPACES OF RESONANCE aims to make the diverse work of female Austrian animated film artists more visible abroad.
SPACES OF RESONANCE presents eight films that highlight the sensitivity and passion of Austrian animation. In disassembly the artists in this program find the ever-recurring beginning of a new story. Fragments turn into building blocks that reassemble to form something new. Space and sound play a special role in this process: What spaces do literature, poetry, sound create? What soundscapes emerge from gentle and challenging feelings? Which spaces open up only through disorientation? Where can utopias be located?
This programme listens to tales of intimacy, tenderness, lust and sensuality, isolation, loneliness and love (sickness). The films constantly disrupt expectations, (re-)invent new patterns and harmonies and, ultimately, testify to the potential of animation: to keep redefining itself by dissolving boundaries. Everything is in a constant state of flux, a permanent state of change; nothing remains static. As viewers, we are invited to take the plunge and dive in.
