The film screening highlights the creative collaboration between an animator and a sound designer/composer. Using examples from their work together, Janet Perlman and Judith Gruber-Stitzer will explain the many ways that image and sound can affect each other in the creation of an animated film.
- Judith Gruber-Stitzer (CA/US): The Sound of Animation
Judith Gruber-Stitzer will illustrate the how, what, when and why of an animated film’s soundtrack. Using examples from the newly-completed National Film Board of Canada’s animated short KASPAR, Gruber-Stitzer will discuss voice recording, foley recording, sound effect design and music composition.
- Janet Perlman (CA): The Serious Side of Funny
A lot of serious thought goes into the making of a funny film. Janet Perlman will discuss the development of the stories and characters in three of her animated films, which manage to be funny while addressing the subjects of death, conflict resolution, and cooperation in the workplace.

Shelley Page’s latest personal selection of the very best international animation shorts! Shelley sits on many international festival and graduation awards juries every year and, in the course of these events, she collects her personal favorites into a special screening: some of the brightest young talents emerging on the international animation scene as well as award-winning work from renowned independent studios around the world.

Sechs Künstlerinnen aus Indien, Frankreich, den Niederlanden, Island und Österreich präsentieren unterschiedliche Auffassungen von Umwelt. Themen wie das Zeitliche, das Zufällige, das Fantastische und das Unvorhersehbare werden verschiedenartig gefasst, um Kraft und Präsenz der Natur darzustellen.
